Good interior decorating is about giving a home purpose, not just making it look pretty.
My love for home and decorating runs deep. As a mother and fashion lover my approach to interior decorating is equal parts practical and stylish. Beauty, simplicity and purpose are the key ingredients behind my decor. So that you can get to know me better, I’m sharing more about where I started, my background and my style.
Where It Started
As a little girl in her bedroom. All of my life I’ve had a love for beautifying things. I was constantly changing things around in my bedroom to keep things fresh. And it didn’t stop there. Whatever the space I had, whether it was my home, my office desk or my car! Yes, even my car. I always relied on my resourcefulness and creativity to turn any space into an elegant oasis that left me feeling cozy and inspired. If I didn’t have it or I couldn’t make it, I shopped or went thrifting for it. Why? Because I strongly believed (and do believe) that everyone, no matter the budget or space, should be surrounded by beauty and love the spaces they’re in.
My Background
My path to becoming an interior decorator was not a straight one. I initially received my graduate degree in magazine journalism at the University of South Florida. My first published article was for Vertical Tampa Bay magazine, writing on trending window treatments. I spent several years working in admin and sales for a couple of design centers. For a period of time, I also worked as a part time personal stylist. But my first real hands-on experience with interior spaces didn’t happen until years later following the pandemic. I provided virtual decorating services to several friends in need of a home refresh. The following year my husband and I partnered with a friend and contractor in building a modern farmhouse in the mountains of North Carolina. After selling our first new build I knew it was time to take the leap and pursue my passion as an interior decorator. Several successful interior decorating projects and a new home build later, here I am, a wife, a mom and now certified interior decorator! It’s been a winding road but I’m glad to have this opportunity to show my son it’s never too late to pursue dreams and new ventures.
Style & Philosophy
I have always been drawn to simple and elegant styles. Elegant can be simple and sophisticated, without the stuffy, no matter the style! It’s all about creating a beautiful balance for me. The design of a room should create moments for the eyes to admire and leave enough space for the eyes to rest. When there is too much stuff in a room you feel overwhelmed and the things that mean the most get lost in the clutter. When there is too little in a room you feel uninspired, and the room is left wanting. I love to combine and mix things; like, old with new, vintage with modern, warm neutrals with dark neutrals. A fresh “collected over time” look with stylish flare.
Elevated home styling for purposeful living, that’s my tag line. Good interior decorating is about giving a home purpose, not just making it look pretty. Having made the most out of the homes I’ve lived in, I show others how to rethink their living spaces and see the potential. It’s knowing what pieces already work well together in a home, and what pieces to add to them that transforms a home into a refined, elegant living space you can cozy up to.
